AI Translation of Non-English Records
Translate non-English titles and abstracts into English while screening, one credit per record, per-record or in batch, with the original text always kept.
Why translation matters in screening
Excluding studies because nobody on the team reads the language is a known source of bias in systematic reviews. The tool removes that excuse at the screening stage: any record whose title and abstract are not in English can be translated in place, so you can screen it against your criteria like every other record.
Translations are faithful and keep technical terms precise. The original text is never overwritten: the translated record shows a badge naming the language it was translated from, and a Show original link toggles back to the source text at any time (with Show translation to return).
How detection works
In plain words: the tool looks at the words in each record's title and abstract and checks how much of the text looks like English. Records that clearly do not are marked as likely non-English, which makes the translate controls appear. Detection is a local heuristic and costs nothing; only the translation itself uses credits.
Translate one record or the whole view
- Per record: click the Translate button on a non-English record card (its tooltip reads Translate to English with AI, 1 credit). The English title and abstract replace the display text with a translated-from badge.
- In batch: when the current view contains untranslated non-English records, a Translate non-English button appears in the toolbar with the count. Click it, confirm the record count and credit cost, and the tool translates them one by one with live progress.
- Check the badge and toggle Show original whenever you want to verify a translation against the source text.
Cost
AI translation costs 1 credit per record, the same rate as AI screening, drawn from the same credit wallet. Any signed-in account can use it, including the free tier through the one-time 50-credit trial grant. If you run out mid-batch, the tool stops cleanly and tells you how many credits you need to finish; top up and run the batch button again to translate the rest.
Tips
- Translate before ranking: the ranker reads the English text once a record is translated, which improves its position accuracy.
