A nursing dissertation is an extended piece of original research: you settle a research question, justify a design your department will accept, gather or synthesise evidence, analyse it, and defend what you found. Where nursing dissertations actually stall
They rarely stall at the writing. In our experience three points account for most of the delay.
The question is not yet a research question. A topic is not a question, and a clinical interest is not a design. Supervisors send proposals back because the question does not specify what will be measured, in whom, and against what. Until that is settled nothing downstream can be built.
The methods chapter cannot justify itself. Candidates often choose a design because it is familiar rather than because it answers the question, then cannot explain the choice under examination. A methods chapter has to argue for the design, not merely describe it.
The results are collected but not interpretable. Data sitting in a spreadsheet with no analysis plan behind it is the most expensive place to get stuck, because the design decisions that would have made it analysable are already locked.

Chapter by chapter
The proposal settles the question, the design, and the rationale for both, in the format your department requires. Get this right and the rest of the dissertation is largely execution.
The evidence review is where nursing dissertations differ most from other disciplines. Nursing evidence is scattered across databases that general searches miss, so we search CINAHL alongside PubMed and the Cochrane Library, document the strategy so it is reproducible, and write the chapter as a synthesis that argues toward your question rather than a sequence of study summaries. The methods chapter sets out the design, the population and sampling, the instruments and their validation, the ethical position, and the analysis plan, with each choice justified against the question. If your study uses a validated scale we address its psychometric properties rather than citing it and moving on.

The discussion places your findings against the literature you reviewed, states the limitations honestly, and draws implications for practice. Examiners look hard at whether the discussion overclaims, and a well-stated limitation is worth more than an inflated conclusion.
